Meet Joy Binuya, a basurera who’s now a successful businesswoman

JOY BINUYA – A basurera turned businesswoman continues to inspire with her success story.

Joy was born from a poor family living near Payatas, Quezon City. She was second to the youngest and ever since, she has experienced many difficulties in life.

She was only five years old when her father died due to a heart attack. At the time, her mother was pregnant with their youngest.

Her mother, who’s the only one supporting their family, took any kind of job including “pamamasura.”

She accompanied her mom to collect scrap materials from the dumpsite that can be sold to junk shops.

Then, she entered high school thanks to the scholarship program of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

After she finished her secondary education, she worked as a saleslady at a store owned by her Chinese employer and is earning only P100 a day.

Eventually, she resigned and landed a job as saleslady of a popular mall. She worked there from 2009 until 2013.

In 2014, she decided to venture into “drop-shipping” of beauty products.

The following year, she thought of pursuing her studies. Joy took a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in Marketing Management.

At the time, she continued her “drop-shipping” business until she graduated as Magna Cum Laude.

Then, she worked as a fiscal clerk at the Supreme Court but she left to focus on her business in selling beauty products.

Presently, Joy Binuya is the CEO of a 6-year-old company, Clarity Essentials, and has fourteen (14) employees already according to PEP.ph.
