Earlier, the former actor-turned-politician formally announced his candidacy for the 2022 presidential elections. It was held on Wednesday, September 22 at the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila.

He will run for the highest position in the country alongside his running mate Dr. Willie Ong.

In his speech that lasted for thirty (30) minutes, he chides at the administration of Duterte as well as the president’s behavior- who is known for swearing.

“Opo, lumaki akong busabos, pero hindi naging bastos,” he said.

This is the first time that Isko directly responded to the criticisms of Duterte with regards to the latter’s televised public address last August 9. At the time, Duterte mocked Isko’s past as an actor through a “blind item.”

Isko also outlined his difference from those seeking to run for higher positions in the government.

After declaring his presidential bid, Isko criticized the Duterte administration’s response to the Philippines’ huge problem with the coronavirus pandemic.

At the end of his presidential campaign launch speech, Isko revealed the reason for choosing Dr. Willie Ong as his vice president.

Isko also said that Manila City Vice Mayor Honey Lacuna, who is also a doctor, will run as mayor of their city in the May 9, 2022 elections.

However, Lacuna is yet to make an official announcement.

Meanwhile, aside from Isko, among those who recently announced their presidential bid are Senators Manny Pacquiao and Ping Lacson.
