It hasn’t been decided yet if only one of former President Joseph Estrada’s sons will run for the Senate next year as he’s keeping his hands off on their political plans in order to avoid any conflict.

JV, nevertheless, declared his senatorial bid after consulting with his parents.

On Friday, JV recalled in an online interview with reporters about his conversation with his father when he informed him of his decision to run for the Senate next year.

According to him, there’s no decision yet on the issue in case he and his brother, former Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, will run for Senate next year.

Nagsabi naman ako although I have to be honest dun po issue na kung maging dalawa kami ay hindi ko na alam no, mukhang wala talaga desisyon na isa lang sa amin ang tatakbo. Syempre mabigat ding factor yun kung sakaling mangyayari,” JV said.

When asked if his senatorial run was with his father’s blessings, JV said that his father didn’t want to interfere and didn’t want to take sides as well.

According to him, his mother, former San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez, didn’t want him to return to local and he can’t disregard the decision of his mother as she’s their political leader in San Juan and really wanted him to continue with what he did in the Senate.

JV also said that he didn’t want to dwell on the “rivalry” with his brother, noting how this issue had affected their respective candidacies last 2019. Inquirer reported that both JV and Jinggoy ran and lost in the last senatorial race.

Back in July, JV told ANC in an interview that he agreed with his brother that there should only be one Estrada in the 2022 national elections.
