Here’s what happened to Dante Varona after leaving Philippine showbiz

Former action star Dante Varona has no regrets for leaving showbiz and live in the US.

Dante became a popular action star in the ’70s and’ 80s alongside Rudy Fernandez, Anthony Alonzo, and Lito Lapid.

He also went into film production and directing.

He was dubbed as “Hari ng Stunts.” He even jumped off the San Juanico Bridge in Samar, Leyte without a harness for the 1981 film.

He has made over a hundred films in almost three decades in showbiz via his production outfit “Bathala Films” and among his favorites are Ermitaño (1981), and Kung Tawagin Siya’y Bathala (1980).

On the other hand, his last directorial stint was Ratratan (1996) starring Gardo Versoza, Daniel Fernando, and Angela Velez.

Despite being an action star, Dante is not the type who flirts with his leading ladies.

He also said that he has no vices such as drinking.

Dante grew up in Boystown in Marikina, where he stayed from elementary to high school. He said his parents could not support him so he was sent to Boystown.

Dante Varona became interested in gymnastics which is the reason why ended up becoming a stuntman.

Then, he met director Artemio Marquez, father of Joey and Melanie Marquez, who gave him a break.

When he left showbiz, he decided to live in America. He has been in the US together with his family for three decades already.

Unfortunately, he has no intention to return to the Philippine showbiz and he considers himself already retired from the entertainment industry.

But according to him, he never dreamt of coming to America. His first job was as a janitor. He worked there for a long time.

Before he retires, his last work was being security personnel.

Meanwhile, Dante Varona and his family now live quietly in California. He said his two children already have their own families.
