President Duterte will personally welcome the arrival of US-donated COVID-19 vaccines On August 3, according to Año.
On Monday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte will personally welcome the arrival of US-donated COVID-19 vaccines on August 3.
Año told CNN Philippines’ The Source that President Duterte will personally welcome the arrival of 3 million Moderna vaccines from the COVAX facility, adding that the President will be among government officials who will grace the arrival of the additional COVID-19 vaccines.
“Yes, bukas darating and the President will be one of those who will welcome the arrival of the vaccines,” said Año.
CNN Philippines reported that Año didn’t mention the vaccine brand, but Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said during his regular press briefing that 3,000,060 doses of the Moderna vaccine will arrive on Tuesday.
Some 415,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be delivered on Monday afternoon, while more than 1 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine will be received within the first week of August.
Meanwhile, Año noted that the 3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses that will be shipped to the Philippines may be part of the doses that will be distributed to NCR, which will shift to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) starting August 6.
However, Año didn’t say whether all 3 million COVID-19 vaccine doses will be earmarked for the metropolis alone.
“Kasama ito sa mga idididistribute natin sa NCR (National Capital Region),” Año said.
CNN Philippines also reported that Metro Manila mayors earlier appealed to the national government to provide at least 4 million COVID-19 vaccine doses if stricter measures will be imposed in the region for two weeks.
