DepEd Reveals Target Changes on Students’ Learning Materials

DepEd Speaks on Continuing Blended Learning in PH

DEPED – The Department of Education revealed its target changes on the learning materials of the students amid the blended learning setup.

Among the changes brought by the COVID-19 pandemic are those that affect the schools, the students, and the way they learn. In 2020, classes were not able to start in June due to the risks. Instead, the school year count started in the first week of October.

With regards to the way the lessons are delivered to the students, unlike the usual face-to-face classes, blended learning is adapted now. The lessons are delivered through online classes or learning materials or modules.

Under the blended learning set-up, the students need not go to school and gatherings can be prohibited.

However, according to the Department of Health (DOH), the use of printed learning materials is hard to sustain. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Education Assistant Secretary Malcom Garma stressed that it would have an “environmental cost”.

Garma also cited that the printed learning materials are consumables and can easily be damaged when there is heavy rain or flood. Based on the report, DepEd is planning to make a shift and come up with a digital version of the printed learning materials.

DepEd acknowledged that not all students may have internet connectivity thus they are looking to the possibility of making it available for storage inside USBs.

According to Garma, they are eyeing the access for the digital learning materials to work even in smartphones for the convenience of the students. Currently, the Education Department is working with the Department of Information Technology (DICT) and Communications Technology and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) for the boosting of the connectivity infrastructure in PH.
