On Monday, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque confirmed in a message to reporters that President Duterte had his second dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine before his meeting with selected members of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).

Photos shared by President Duterte’s former close aide Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on his Facebook page showed that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III administered the second dose to the President in Malacañang.

In his weekly address to the nation, President Duterte appealed to the public to get inoculated as soon as possible.

I reiterate my appeal: please get vaccinated as soon as possible. The life you are saving is not only your own, but also your loved ones and the people around you,” President Duterte said.

President Duterte received his second dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine 70 days after receiving his first dose last May 3.

Inquirer reported that the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended an interval of three to four weeks between the first and second dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine.

When President Duterte was vaccinated with the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine last May, the said vaccine had yet to secure an emergency use authorization (EUA) from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

However, a compassionate special permit was given to the Presidential Security Group (PSG) by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration.

It was only last June when the FDA approved the said vaccine for emergency use only for the donated batch used to vaccinate the President, the PSG members, and other public officials.
