President Duterte joked on Taal eruption: “Siguro lagyan ko lang ng cap yung butas.”
Amidst threats caused by Taal Volcano, President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday joked that he would place a cap on the volcano’s crater.
Authorities have started evacuations south of Manila after Taal volcano spewed a 1-kilometer high plume of gas and steam, which prompted authorities to raise the volcano’s alert status to level 3.
When asked if he would call for a command conference on this, President Duterte said that it’s “not necessarily”.
“Hindi ko malaman kung, dumaan man kami kanina, konti lang. Siguro lagyan ko lang ng cap, yung butas. Taal na yan,” President Duterte said in a press briefing.
Pressed for a reminder for the public, President Duterte said that there’s always an exigency measure of government.

President Duterte said that the government would “raise the alert on the level that it should.” However, President Duterte said that it wasn’t a serious concern for now.
The social welfare department, according to President Duterte, had prepositioned aid in its warehouses.
“‘Pag pumutok ‘yang Taal, meron na doon, naka i-station na ang mga tulong nila. It could get worse. But I said, there will be instant gratification because there are workers on the ground ready. Iyan ang gusto ko sa military, methodical ang ano nila. And the rest are also good,” President Duterte said.
President Duterte’s interaction with the press happened after he led the inauguration of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Line 2 East Extension Project in Antipolo City.
