Hidilyn Diaz: “Para sa akin si Julius na lang ang tatanungin niyo. Kasi ako ready naman ako.”
Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz is ready to answer “YES” in case her boyfriend-coach Julius Naranjo proposed to her.
Diaz made history as the first-ever Filipino to bag a gold medal in the Olympics in the recently concluded women’s 55-kg weightlifting event.
The country’s pride finished with a total score of 224 kg defeating China’s Liao Qiuyun.
The 30-year-old weightlifter from Zamboanga ended the near century-long Olympic gold medal drought of the country since it competed in 1924.
In an interview via program “Sakto,” she said that she’s ready to get married and start her own family.
“Para sa akin si Julius na lang ang tatanungin niyo. Kasi ako ready naman ako,” she said when asked if she’s ready to settle down.
Julius is a Filipino-Japanese weightlifter whom Hidilyn met when she competed in Turkmenistan in 2017.
Hidilyn directly said in an interview with “Magandang Buhay” in 2019 that she is ready to have her own family if she fulfills her ultimate dream, which is to take home a gold medal as a weightlifter for the Philippines.
“Yun po talaga ang gusto ko after na sana makuha ko, kini-claim ko na makuha ang gold sa Olympics. After that magkakaroon ng baby, mag-settle. Then kailangan ko rin makapagtapos ng pag-aaral,” she said in a statement before she competed in the Tokyo Olympics.
