President Duterte received his second dose of COVID-19 vaccine, according to PSG chief.
On Friday, Presidential Security Group (PSG) Commander Jesus Durante III confirmed that President Rodrigo Duterte received his second dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
Based on a report on PTV News, Durante said in a virtual interview that President Duterte had his second dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine 14 days after his first dose vaccination of Sinopharm on May 3.
“Vaccinated na po siya, at napakahalaga po nito, para lalo namin siyang maingatan, lalo na magagawa niya nang maayos at tuloy-tuloy ang kanyang tungkulin, upang makapaglingkod sa ating mga kababayan,” Durante said.
It was last June 7 when the Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the emergency use authorization (EUA) application for the 1,000 Chinese-donated Sinopharm vaccine doses.
Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in his regular press briefing last June 8 that President Duterte waited for Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine to secure an emergency use authorization before receiving his second dose “out of respect” for medical frontliners.
Despite President Duterte’s COVID-19 vaccination status, the Presidential Security Group assured the continued enforcement of security and health protocols until the last day of the administration.
There were currently no reports saying that the Chief Executive had tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
“We never put our guard down from the very beginning. And we are proud to say that the President remains safe from the virus,” Durante said.
In line with President Duterte’s upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA), Durante said that they have yet to announce whether physical attendees have to be fully vaccinated to be allowed entry.
