On Thursday, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in his regular press briefing that President Duterte waited for Sinopharm’s COVID-19 vaccine to secure an EUA before getting his second dose “out of respect for medical frontliners”.

Because some doctors reached out to him and said, perhaps you should wait for the EUA and out of respect to our medical frontliners, he complied,” Roque said when asked why President Duterte has yet to receive his second dose.

To recall, President Duterte received his first dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine last May.

During that time, Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine had yet to secure an EUA though it was already granted a compassionate use for Presidential Security Group (PSG) members.

According to Roque, he’s not yet aware of any schedule for President Duterte’s second dose of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine but he’s sure that it’s because he waited for the EUA which was already issued by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration.

The said vaccine was approved for emergency use in the Philippines last Monday, June 7.
