Woman Arrested for Stealing Valuables of OFW Applicant

A 50-year-old woman was arrested due to allegedly stealing the valuables of an OFW applicant in Ermita, Manila.

An OFW applicant sought the help of the Ermita Police after the suspect, a resident of Dasmariñas, Cavite, stole his bag containing his wallet, cellphone, and wedding ring.

The two first met on Wednesday. In fact, they got together at a local restaurant on UN Avenue.

The incident was even recorded via CCTV wherein the victim can be first seen holding his red bag while the suspect holds a black bag.

But when the suspect came out of the restaurant, the bag of the victim was already in her possession.

The suspect who was spotted anew at a medical clinic was arrested after a follow-up operation by the Bocobo PCP.

According to Ermita police commander Police Lt Col Evangeline Cayaban, the modus operandi of the suspect is to pretend an OFW applicant.

It was also found out as per investigation that the suspect has been doing the modus since 2007.

None of the valuables of the victim was returned and it was also confirmed that P50,000 has been withdrawn from his bank account

But the suspect denied withdrawing from the victim’s account.

The suspect will be facing theft charges.
