Ryan Cayabyab pays tribute to the late Nestor Torre

NESTOR TORRE – The renowned writer, journalist, and director passed away at the age of 78.

He passed away on Tuesday due to complications caused by coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

“He was always larger than life and we feel his absence terribly,” his niece Kat Angeli Torre said in a Facebook post. “We thank you for all of the love and support you’ve shown Tito and our family over the years.”

Nestor Torre is a former editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. He’s known for his entertainment column “Viewfinder.”

He’s also ventured into filmmaking. In fact, he was the director of several films such as “Crush ko si Sir”, “King Khayam and I” and “Ang Isinilang Ko Ba’y Kasalanan?”

His remains will be cremated on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, prominent composer Ryan Cayabyab took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to pay tribute to the late writer-director.

He wrote: “Nagbibigay pugay po. Rest in peace in God’s loving embrace, Nestor Torre. Cause of death: covid19. Nestor was the quintessential lifestyle and entertainment editor of major broadsheets. We are witnessing the passing of an important era. Ang lungkot.”
