Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach gave a comment about the community pantry via micro-blogging site, Twitter.
The concept of a “community pantry” became popular on social media and spread throughout the country.
The program which started in Quezon City’s Maginhawa Street was repeated in several areas to assist those in need especially the people affected by the current pandemic.
On Twitter, a user with handle name @j3dph told her: “Comment naman Pia sa Community Pantry dito sa pinas, what you think?.”
To which she replied: “Thanks for asking me this! I took some time to really think about it and really understand better what we are faced with as a nation. For me, the community pantry is a really good initiative. Yet again, it is proof of the undying spirit of Bayanihan. However, I also understand.”
Pia Wurtzbach is one of the many celebrities who expressed their opinion on community pantries.
Previously, balladeer Richard Poon made a buzz online following his post about the origin of the community pantries.
On Facebook, Richard reposted posts from a certain MJ Quiambao Reyes regarding “Bayanihan” drives in the early part of 2020
Richard Poon then cited 6 differences that the Bayanihan before compared to the community pantries now.
According to the crooner, Bayanihan has always been present but it is only now that it is being talked about.
