According to the solons, the photos of the president and his long-time aide were only for “photo ops.”

Gabriela party-list Representative Arlene Brosas noted that the president has been missing in action for more than a week and the government should address the pandemic instead of photo ops.

“Mahigit isang linggo na, missing in action pa rin si Pangulong Duterte. Umaapaw na ang mga ospital, gutom na ang mamamayan dahil sa kakarampot na ayuda, pero photo ops lang ang ibinigay ng Palasyo,” she said.

On the other hand, Bayan Muna party-list Representative Carlos Isagani Zarate stressed that the President should be at the forefront in times like this.

“Ang isang Pangulo ay dapat nasa unahan para ipakita niya na he is on top of the situation. But, it appears, he’s just there, sitting on the situation. Nagphophoto ops lang,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sen. Bong Go stated that he released the photos to refute speculations that the President had a mild heart attack.
