Belmonte said that her LGU will shoulder the burial expenses of an old man who died after waiting in line at a community pantry in Quezon City.

In a report on Rappler, Belmonte said that her LGU will shoulder the burial expenses of 67-year-old Rolando dela Cruz, who died after he fainted while waiting in line at Angel Locsin’s community pantry.

Also, Belmonte said that the city government will provide financial assistance to the victim’s family.

According to Belmonte, she expressed “deep sadness” for the victim’s death, adding that the “unfortunate incident should serve as an important reminder for organizers to please… coordinate all efforts with the barangay, and if necessary, with the LGU” while Quezon City still fully supported other community pantry initiatives.

The barangay and local government are here to assist with crowd control and health protocols, to ensure that untoward incidents are minimized. Advanced coordination will allow all stakeholders to be proactive, rather than reactive. Sadly, in this case, we were not advised regarding any plans, which would have surely made a difference in the outcome of today’s events,” Belmonte says.

Belmonte’s statement came after Barangay Holy Spirit desk officer Benjamin Berriber confirmed the passing of Rolando dela Cruz.

However, the actress apologized on Friday following the chaos in her community pantry. According to her, it wasn’t her intention to cause any trouble in the said area.
