On February 22, the GMA-7’s flagship news program featured the three Filipino-American engineers who have been part of the successful landing of NASA’s Perseverance rover on planet Mars on Friday, February 19, 2021.

While Mel Tiangco is giving the report, she appeared to be as if she was on the red planet, thanks to the augmented reality (AR) graphics.

As expected, netizens noticed the background and took to social media to post hilarious comments about it.

On Tuesday, a Twitter user with the handle name @russelldaviiid shared a picture of Mel Tiangco while delivering her report.

It is accompanied by the caption: “congrats po tita mel as kauna-unahang pinay sa mars [smiling face with heart-shaped eyes emoji] #proudpinoy.”

His tweet immediately captured the attention of netizens with some replying and reposting the photo, turning it into memes.
