Gordon: Philippine Red Cross Eyeing To Procure COVID-19 Vaccines

The Philippine Red Cross was eyeing to procure COVID-19 vaccines, according to Gordon.

On Wednesday, PRC chairperson Senator Richard Gordon said that the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) was eyeing to procure COVID-19 vaccines.

This, after Gordon earlier said that the non-government organization would offer its assistance to the Philippine government in its national vaccination program.

Gordon told ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo that the Philippine Red Cross was already helping the Philippine government in vaccinating children against measles.

Nagorder ako, kung pwede, sa malalaking kompanya tulad nitong AstraZeneca 2 million (doses), Moderna 200,000 (doses). May kakausapin kami dito sa ibang tao,” Gordon said.

Last month, Gordon told reporters in an online press conference that the PRC had written a letter to Pfizer and AstraZeneca in order to procure some 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses.

In a report on ABS-CBN News, the Philippines was forecasted to start its COVID-19 vaccination program this month as it expected the arrival of around 1 million COVID-19 vaccine doses.

As per the report, the Philippine government aimed to vaccinate up to 70 million Filipinos against the coronavirus disease this year in order to achieve herd immunity.

At present, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had granted an emergency use authorization for Phizer-BioNTech and AstraZeneca-Oxford COVID-19 vaccines in the Philippines.
