A 4-month-old baby girl in Pasay City tested positive for the dreaded coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
According to Pasay Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano, the 23-year-old mother of the child also contracted the disease.
“Doblehin po natin ang pag-iingat sapagkat wala po talagang sinasanto ang sakit na ito at hindi namimili kung bata o matanda ang magiging biktima,” the mayor said.
Mark Anthony Castillo, a nurse at the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, noted that the 4-month-old baby girl and the mother have been transferred to the Mall of Asia Quarantine Facility.
Since the child is still being breastfed by the mother, Castillo said that the coronavirus could be transferred to the child.
Meanwhile, the mayor stressed that the local government is intensifying its efforts in order to prevent the transmission of COVID-19.
33 villages were placed on localized lockdown for 14 days after recording three or more active cases of coronavirus.
The Pasay Mayor was also placed under self-quarantine after she tested positive for COVID-19 last February 9.
However, it’s not yet clear if the mayor has recovered from the dread virus but the city PIO said the incumbent mayor finished the required quarantine.
As of posting, Pasay has already recorded 7,650 cases, 395 of which are active while 196 have died and 7,059 have recovered.
