On Wednesday, the OSG confirmed that a group of hackers called “Phantom Troupe” break into their website.

According to the Office of the Solicitor General, the entity “uploaded several files in the OSG online job application system (career.osg.gov.ph) in an attempt to deface the site.”

“This unauthorized access resulted in the introduction of an altered screen displaying the message ‘Stop blackmailing the NTC! Give ABS-CBN provisional authority!” the statement added.

It was in April when Solicitor General Jose Calida warned the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) that the commissioners may face charges once ABS-CBN was granted a provisional authority to continue its operation when its franchise expires.

Instead of granting a provisional authority, NTC ended up giving an order to ABS-CBN to stop its broadcast operations.

And in July, a month after its shut down, the House franchise committee denied the franchise application of the Kapamilya Network.

The denial prompted the management of ABS-CBN to retrench thousands of its workers.

Meanwhile, OSG warned the group behind the hacking that “this attack against the confidentiality, integrity and availability of computer data and systems of the OSG is a criminal offense under the Cybercrime Law.”
