ECOP Says Limited Mass Transport and Traffic Major Factors for Unemployment in PH
The Employers’ Confederation of the Philippines said that the limited mass transport and traffic are the major factors for unemployment rate.
ECOP President Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr. said that there are numerous factors causing joblessness in the Philippines. He also said that hotels and restaurants are still trying to recover from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
Around 3.8 million adult Filipinos were jobless as of October 2020, according to the report of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has the lowest unemployment rate and while the National Capital Region (NCR) had the highest.
Luis said limited mass transportation and the traffic have been a challenge for many Filipino employees. The limited numbers of public vehicles is a huge problem for workers and the worsening traffic problem in Metro Manila make it worse.
“Mass transportation hanggang ngayon hindi pa rin nakakapasok yung iba at ayaw pa ring magpapasok ng ibang kumpanya dahil talagang hirap pumasok ang mga tao walang mass transportation,” Luis said.
The ECOP President also revealed many of their members have released the 13th month pay of their employees.
