Pia Cayetano: “If you asked me, abuse of authority na iyon”
Senator Pia Cayetano reacted to the body-shaming involving actress Angel Locsin via learning module wherein she was described as an “obese person.”
Pia Cayetano gave her reaction on the matter during the Senate deliberations for the proposed 2021 budget of the Department of Education (DepEd) wherein she sat as a sponsor.
The issue was brought up by Senator Grace Poe after she asked how it was published on the exam material.
“Ewan ko kung may malisya ‘yon o baka walang malisya, pero sa karaniwang tao, hindi naman pwede iyon. Paano nakalusot ‘yong ganoon?”
The senator did not name Angel Locsin but it’s clear that it is pertaining to the actress.
“In that case, may liberty siya to create that exam, and obviously we all don’t agree with that example. If you asked me, abuse of authority na iyon, that was very wrong discretion in the way the example or question–it was done the wrong way,” Pia Cayetano said.
According to officials of the education department, the teacher is currently undergoing an administrative investigation following the gaffe.
Senator Poe on the other hand reminds the education department to promote sensitivity.
DepEd has already issued an apology to Angel Locsin over alleged body-shaming.
