Last week, the Dialysis PH Support Group Inc. lamented how several dialysis centers rejected the PhilHealth cards of patients who had availed more than 90 dialysis sessions.

Reynaldo Abacan Jr., the President of Dialysis Support Group, noted that the privilege to avail free dialysis sessions under the Bayanihan 2 should last until December as there’s still a public health emergency.

The regular coverage for dialysis patients was up to 90 sessions or 90 days per calendar year.

The said coverage, however, was extended when President Rodrigo Duterte declared a state of calamity for six months in March because of COVID-19 pandemic.

Regular members’ 45 days of coverage per calendar year was extended by the declaration of state of calamity apart from the coverage of dialysis patient-members beyond 90 days.

In September, President Duterte had extended the state of calamity for one year — from September 13, 2020 to September 12, 2021.

This means that PhilHealth was obligated to pay for the additional sessions even if patients had used up their allotted days of insurance coverage during the said period.
