President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed ex-Mayor Christian Natividad of Malolos City, Bulacan as the new chief of the Optical Media Board (OMB).

According to presidential spokesperson Harry Roque, Natividad will serve as OMB chairperson for three years.

He took the oath of office before Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi on Thursday, October 1.

“We hope the appointment of Mr. Natividad would lead the OMB to greater heights, particularly in fighting optical media piracy and protecting intellectual property rights in digital form,” said Roque.

“We wish Mr. Natividad good luck in his new assignment,” he added.

In the 2019 midterm elections, the former Mayor run under PDP-Laban, the political party of Duterte. However, he lost to Daniel Fernando in the vice governorial race.

Meanwhile, the Optical Media Board, formerly known as the Videogram Regulatory Board, is a national agency under the Office of the President of the Philippines responsible for regulating the production, use and distribution of recording media in the Philippines.
