An official referee of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has been tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

According to an announcement made by the basketball league, the swab test results of the said referee came out on Monday.

Prior to that, the official went through a mandatory swab test as requirement to enter the bubble but the three results yielded negative but in the fourth time, it turned out positive.

Willie Marcial, the commissioner of PBA said that the referee was then brought at the Athlete’s Village in Tarlac for isolation.

The referee will be tested anew on Wednesday.

“First and second layer persons who have been in contact with the game official have already been put in isolation. They will be retested on Oct. 24,” PBA said in a statement.

The Philippine Basketball Association said that upcoming games will go on as scheduled, however “stricter measures will be in effect inside the bubble and during games.”

Meanwhile, all activities including gym, jogging, swimming are temporarily suspended on Wednesday as part of the health and safety protocol.
