Janine Gutierrez took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter wherein she divulged her reaction to the appointment of former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Dante Gierran as the new chief of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth).

On Monday night, August 31, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confirmed via text message that President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed the ex-NBI chief, replacing resigned PhilHealth president and CEO Ricardo Morales.

Ricardo Morales resigned due to his medical condition as he claimed he’s undergoing treatment for lymphoma or cancer of the lymph nodes.

His resignation came after the investigation of the alleged corruption within the state-run insurance firm.

Meanwhile, Dante Gierran’s appointment was swirled with comments as he admitted that he has no knowledge about the operations of PhilHealth.

It can be recalled that the newly appointed PhilHealth chief was interviewed by broadcast journalist Karen Davila via her program Headstart on ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC).

In the said interview, she questioned the latter’s appointment and read one of the requirements to be appointed as PhilHealth chief.

While being honest for having no knowledge about PhilHealth, he stressed in the latter part that he has a background on financial management- as he cited being a Certified Public Accountant and also about law, insurance, and investigation.
