The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) through Undersecretary Benny Antiporda issued a statement regarding the white sand makeover of Manila Bay.

Recently, many were shocked after a wide stretch of powdered white sand covered the baywalk of Manila Bay.

“Madaming nagkakaroon ng anxiety attack sa ngayon. Kaya Secretary [Roy Cimatu] wants this to be done immediately para makita ng tao na kahit papaano, may pag-asa pa pala ang buhay,” he said.

“If you will look at the situation of Manila Bay before, you’d consider na parang patay na. Ngayon nabuhay natin, gusto nyang ipakita na may pag-asa pa,” he added.

According to Antiporda, the environment department would like to promote environmental awareness and cleanliness thru the restoration of Manila Bay.

In his statement via, ABS-CBN News, the DENR undersecretary stressed the three objectives behind the restoration of the natural harbor; “to see is to believe,” “to smell is to believe,” and “to smell is to believe.”

It’s been a week since DENR started putting “white sand” which are actually dolomite boulders from Cebu that were crushed and brought to Manila.

The goal of DENR is to allow the beachgoers to feel the Boracay essence via a one hectare walkable are in Manila Bay.

DENR partners with the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) in this project.

Manila Bay’s beachfront will be ready in time for the International Coastal Cleanup Day this coming September 19.
