Antonio Sanchez was sentenced to seven terms of Reclusion Perpetua, (40-years per term) in March 1995, in connection with the Sarmenta-Gomez double murder case.

He’s said to be the mastermind behind the killing of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez, both students at the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, in 1993.

Meanwhile, the convicted criminal who is now 71-years-old has been confined at the New Bilibid Prison Hospital in Muntinlupa City on Monday, due to community-acquired pneumonia, acute gastroenteritis, chronic kidney disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, and benign prostatic hypertrophy.

According to Manila Bulletin, he is now in a stable condition and is not on dextrose at press time.

DoJ spokesman Mark Perete said that Antonio Sanchez has sought permission from the justice department to be transferred to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) on Taft Ave. in Manila for additional tests.

But based on the latest report courtesy of Inquirer.net, he will no longer be transferred to PGH since “his condition has improved.”

Last year, Antonio Sanchez made headlines after news broke that there is a high possibility he will be released from prison because he is among the thousands of inmates who should be released on bail by recomputation of good conduct time allowances of Republic Act No.10592.

But on May 7, 2020, DOJ Secretary Menardo Jimenez reiterated that Antonio Sanchez would still not be released.
