Known as Jonalyn Viray on GMA-7, she shocked her fans in 2016 when she switched to ABS-CBN.

On Friday, July 10, 2020, Congress rejected the renewal of ABS-CBN Corporation’s franchise.

As a result, the artists and employees lost hope that the network would operate again after it stopped airing on May 5, due to the cease and desist order of the National Telecommunications Commission.

On Saturday, July 11, Jona responded on Twitter to netizens who instead of sympathizing with those like her affected by the ABS-CBN shutdown, even mocked her transfer to Kapamilya Network.

Jona was one of those who expressed sadness over the non-renewal of the ABS-CBN franchise on July 10.

Jona was also one of the artists who participated in the Kapamilya motorcade held in front of the ABS-CBN Compound on, July 10, while awaiting the decision of Congress.

The singer started as Jonalyn Viray in the GMA-7 singing competition Pinoy Pop Superstar, where she was the first grand champion.

After winning, she became a regular performer of GMA-7’s variety programs: SOP, Party Pilipinas, and Sunday All Stars.

In February 2016, the singer surprised the invited press and guests at the press conference of the ABS-CBN teleserye We Will Survive when he was introduced as Jona.

She was chosen to sing the theme song of the program.

When asked why she moved to ABS-CBN, she replied, “They have given me more confidence now and, apparently, there is a project lined up for me.”

In the years that followed, Jona was seen on the variety show ASAP.

She was also part of the ASAP Birit Queens group, along with Angeline Quinto, Morissette Amon, and Klarisse de Guzman.
