Año Says News Stating Cops Leading House-to-House Search for COVID-19 Patients are Fake News

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año has described the reports that cops allegedly leads the house-to-house search for COVID-19 patients as fake news.

On Friday (July 17, 2020), the Department of the Interior and Local Government secretary said that the news stating police and armies leading the house-to-house searches for patients with coronavirus are fake news.

The DILG executive said that those reports have been created by unscrupulous individuals and clarified that cops will only assist the city health employees and government officials during the program.

“Again, I repeat, the police are there merely in a supporting role,” Año said.

The program called “Oplan Kalinga” aims to move individuals infected with COVID-19 suffering mild or even no symptoms to government isolation facilities. The Bureau of Fire Protection would also assist the health officers with “Oplan Kalinga”.

“The BFP is part of the Municipal/City COVID-19 Task Forces and in this capacity, they have been assisting the City/Municipal Health Office transport COVID patients since the start of the pandemic. In fact, they have so far transported 1,674 COVID patients nationwide,” Año added.
