DepEd on students’ enrollment amid COVID-19 pandemic: Parents have final decision
The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, June 2, 2020, issued a statement regarding the enrollment of students for the upcoming school year amid the compelling danger of coronavirus disease or COVID-19.
DepEd Undersecretary and Spokesperson Nepomuceno Malaluan told the press via text message that they will respect the decision of the parents who decided not to enroll their children this upcoming school year.
But DepEd Undersecretary and spokesperson Annalyn Sevilla reiterated that they “will still continue to explain and present options and alternative delivery of learning without face-to-face for info[rmation] and reference of all stakeholders.”
Meanwhile, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones earlier stressed in a media briefing that the parents still have the final say whether to enroll their children or not as far as safety and health are concerned.
“We try to give them as much information as possible, so they will be in a better position to decide,”

According to Inquirer.net, the Department of Education is set to open the School Year 2020 to 2021 this coming August 24 but Briones emphasized that there would be a “no face-to-face classes until safe” thus they consider to integrate online mode of teaching.
