On Friday, May 29, 2020, the Senate voted in favor of the enactment of the new anti-terrorism bill or known as the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Meanwhile, the controversial anti-terrorism bill is currently being lobbied in the House of Representatives for approval.

“It’s as good as passed. It will just need my signature if it comes back to us after ratification then I will transmit to the President,” Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said in an interview with the members of the press including GMA News.

However, the pending anti-terrorism law did not receive recommendations among the popular celebrities who vent out their frustration on the new anti-terrorism bill.

On Twitter, Kapuso star and actress Janine Gutierrez launched a signature campaign calling the public to scrap the new anti-terrorism bill.

Singer/actress Agot Isidro also posted a statement on the micro-blogging site calling the attention of the mass to junk the said bill.

Basketball star Kobe Paras, on the other hand, posted a photo which states that “Fighting for your rights is not a crime!”

“Even tweeting any thoughts against the government can, and likely will, be considered an ‘act of terrorism’ under this bill. It’s an infringement upon our most basic human rights,” wrote Frankie Pangilinan, the daughter of Senator Kiko Pangilinan with Mega Star Sharon Cuneta.
