Nic Jorge dies at 78
Nic Jorge, a former coach of the Philippine men’s basketball team died in his sleep on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at the age of 78.
The veteran basketball coach who popularized local basketball and sports clinic left his wife and three other kids and two grandchildren.
Nic, whose real name is Nicanor is the founder of Milo BEST (Basketball Efficiency and Scientific Training) Center in 1979, a sports clinic that developed basketball stars namely Jerry Codinera, Jun Limpot, Rey Evangelista, Joseph Yeo, Larry Fonacier and Kiefer Ravena and to name a few.
The grassroots basketball father was the coach of the Philippine team during the FIBA World Cup in Manila in 1978.
According to ABS-CBN Sports, Nic Jorge started his coaching career when he trained the University of the Philippines basketball team in 1983.
He also mentored the Manhattan Shirtmakers in the PBA at the time.
Nic Jorge also served the Basketball Association of the Philippines as their secretary-general. Later on, it was replaced by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas where he worked as a board member.
Then, he decided to leave the SBP to prioritize his MILO Best Clinic.
Nic Jorge’s body will be cremated Sunday, June 14.
