Alibaba Group appointed Chun Li as the new CEO of Lazada.
Alibaba Group on Friday announced that the company named Chun Li as the Chief Executive Officer of Lazada effective July 1, 2020.
This, as Lazada spokesperson Lucy Peng said that Chun was an “experienced business leader” who could realize the company’s vision of unifying commerce with technology in order to advance digital economy of Southeast Asia.
Chun was set to take over the role of Pierre Poignant, who would become a special assistant to Alibaba Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Daniel Zhang, as the CEO of Lazada Group.

Shortly after Chun’s appointment was announced, he said in a sent email that he was excited about his opportunity to lead Lazada into the next chapter of the company’s journey, adding that he believed that the company was “well-positioned” in Southeast Asia in order to take advantage of the great opportunities in an evolving digital economy.
Chun also said that the company could make meaningful contributions to the ecosystem via its technology innovation and its logistics infrastructure. He added that Lazada will ramp up its technology investment in Southeast Asia in order to ensure that the company has maintained its competitive advantage.

Chun added that the momentum for e-commerce in Southeast Asia, paired with digital innovations and logistics infrastructure of the company, will propel the group even further and will allow it to better serve its consumers across the region.
Lazada was Alibaba Group’s flagship e-commerce service in Southeast Asia.
