A political activist in India has been arrested after a volunteer fell ill from drinking cow urine in order to fight the coronavirus disease or COVID-19.

This, as Kolkata police chief Anuj Sharma told AFP that Narayan Chatterjee, a Bharatiya Janata Party activist, was arrested by West Bengal state police in India for “organizing the cow urine consumption event and compelling a civic volunteer to drink cow urine”, adding that the civic volunteer “fell sick on Tuesday and lodged a complaint with the police.”

However, Dilip Ghosh, the president of BJP’s West Bengal branch, told AFP that Chatterjee’s arrest was “unfortunate” for “expressing his opinion organizing the event”, adding that the branch didn’t know if “the civic volunteer was forced to drink cow urine.”
