According to DOST-PHIVOLCS, there were no ash emissions based on their seismic records and visual observations since 5:00 AM of January 22, 2020, yet the unconsolidated ash covering Taal Volcano Island has been remobilized and transported by “strong low-level winds” towards southwest. The remobilized ash may affect the towns of Lemery and Agoncillo in Batangas.

In addition, the reports from several airlines stated the presence of remobilized volcanic ash at a height of approximately 5,800 meters (19,000 feet).

The alert Level 4 still continued in effect over Taal Volcano, which means, according to DOST-PHIVOLCS, the hazardous explosive eruption will happen within hours to days. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology strongly recommended the total evacuation of Taal volcano island as well as high-risk areas as identified in the hazard maps within a 14-km radius from its main crater and along the Pansipit River Valley where fissuring has been observed.

The DOST-PHIVOLCS will continually monitor the eruption.
