Is Isko Moreno too young to become the country’s next president?
ISKO MORENO – The Manila Mayor and presidential aspirant responded to the criticism he’s too young to become president.
Moreno will run for the highest government position alongside his running mate Doc Willie Ong.
They will go against the tandem of; Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, Senator Manny Pacquiao and Buhay partylist representative, Lito Atienza as well as Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Senator Vicente “Tito” Sotto III.
At 47, Isko Moreno is among the youngest candidate in May 9, 2022, presidential election.
But in an interview via DZBB on Wednesday, February 2, he stressed that age doesn’t determine competence.
“For so many instances in our history and world history, maraming mga bata na naging presidente na naging mabuti sa kanyang bansa,” he said.
Isko Moreno cited late Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay who served the country when he was only 46-years-old.
The Manila mayor also mentioned former US presidents John F. Kennedy and Barack Obama, who started their presidencies at 43 and 47, respectively.
The presidential candidate believes that youth can also be an advantage for the presidency.
“Maraming mga batang lider na mas mabilis kumilos, mas masigasig, mas open ang pag-iisip sa inobasyon,” he said.
Apparently, Isko is not the youngest among top candidates for the presidency.
Senator Manny Pacquiao is the youngest among them at 43. Followed by Vice President Leni Robredo at 56, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at 64 and Senator Panfilo Lacson at 73.
On the other hand, Isko Moreno started his work for the government at the age of 23. He first served as councilor of Manila.
