Fifteen PSG members have tested positive for COVID-19.
PSG — 15 personnel of the Presidential Security Group have tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
This was confirmed to Malacañang reporters on Thursday, January 6, by PSG commander Colonel Randolph Cabangbang.
When asked if the infected personnel had any prior contact with the President, Cabangbang said that they didn’t have any recent contact with the President.
According to Cabangbang, the COVID-stricken members “coming off holiday break” and therefore had no recent interaction with the President.
Cabangbang also said that the PSG members were administered RT-PCR test after undergoing the mandatory quarantine for seven days and 15 personnel yielded COVID-positive test results.
In addition, Cabangbang said that the COVID-stricken members have all been inoculated against COVID-19 and were all asymptomatic.

Also, the PSG commander assured the public that the COVID-stricken members were being taken care of in accordance with government protocols.
“PSG is strictly adhering to the highest standards of performing its primary mandate, that is, to protect the Commander-in-Chief, our beloved President Duterte,” Cabangbang said. “Your PSG assures the public that we are fit and able to protect the President so he can continue his mandate to serve this nation.“
Earlier, Cabinet Secretary and acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles said that all health protocols were strictly followed in order to ensure that the President will stay COVID-free while exercising his duty as commander-in-chief.
There’s a new surge in coronavirus cases that was supposedly being fueled by the Omicron variant.
On Wednesday, the Philippines recorded 10,775 new coronavirus infections, increasing the country’s total cases to 2,871,745.
DOH data showed that 99% of the 10,775 new coronavirus cases occurred within the recent 14 days (from December 23, 2021, to January 5, 2022).
On Thursday, the country detected 29 additional cases of the Omicron variant, bringing the total confirmed cases in the Philippines to 43.
