Mayor Gatchalian has coronavirus
REX GATCHALIAN – The mayor of Valenzuela City tested positive for the coronavirus disease 2019 or COVID-19.
The COVID-19 pandemic remains to be the biggest challenge that the country is facing today. This disease that started way back in 2019 at Wuhan, China has placed a lot of lives at risk and has even taken the lives of many people
A lot of personalities such as celebrities, elites, and even politicians were infected with the coronavirus as well.
Among those who contracted the dreaded virus is no less than Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian.
Recently, he went to the social networking site, Facebook wherein he made the announcement.
According to him, he’s experiencing mild symptoms that’s why he’s now quarantined at an isolation facility in the city.
But he stressed that he will continue to discharge his responsibility as mayor of Valenzuela City.
He said that the local government of Valenzuela City will continue its operation thru Vice Mayor Lorie Natividad Borja together with the City Hall Management Team.
Meanwhile, the country is being threatened by Omicron which is said to be the most transmissible coronavirus variant, so far, according to experts.
As of posting, there are 14 cases of the Omicron variant in the Philippines.
COVID-19 continues to spike in the country. In fact, there are 5,434 new COVID-19 cases in the country as of today, January 4, 2022.
On the other hand, 18 new deaths have been recorded, raising the total number of fatalities to 51,604 while 611 additional recoveries have been logged.
Since the start of the pandemic, the Philippines has confirmed over 2.86 million COVID-19 cases. Currently, there are 29,809 active cases.
