Filmmaker Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez dies due to these complications

SIGFREID BARROS-SANCHEZ – The popular filmmaker passed away due to stroke, kidney illness, and other complications at the age of 46.

The prolific independent scriptwriter died around 6 p.m. on January 3, 2022, at the Philippine Heart Center.

His wife, Kaye, shared in an interview that he has been comatose for 11 days.

Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez is popular in the world of filmmaking.

He’s the writer and director of the 2005 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival entry “Lasponggols.”

It was then followed by the 2005 Cinema One Originals film festival entry “Anak Ni Brocka.”

In 2012, he directed the Sineng Pambansa film festival entry “In Bangka Ha Ut Sin Duwa Sapah” and 2014 Cine Totoo Philippine International Documentary film festival entry, “Ang Gitaristang Hindi Marunong Magskala.”

Sigfreid Barros-Sanchez is also the director of “Tsardyer,” as well as “Ang Mga Kidnaper Ni Ronnie Lazaro,” “Magtanggol” and the Aksyon Star segment of “Imahe Nasyon.”

He’s also credited as writer-collaborator of “Baklad” with Topel Lee; “Prosti” with Erik Matti and to name a few.

On the side, he also took part in TV shows and commercials.

Meanwhile, actor Epy Quizon lamented the passing of the filmmaker.

“My heart is broken. He was one of the most creative minds in the industry with his unique approaches to filmmaking,” he told ABS-CBN News.

The family of the late director is still finalizing his funeral arrangements.
