Comelec Speaks on Petitions Vs. Bongbong Marcos

COMELEC – The Commission on Elections said that summons regarding the petition against his candidacy will be served to presidential aspirant and former Senator Bongbong Marcos today.

For the Election 2022, there are 97 presidential aspirants but some of them were determined by the poll body as nuisance candidates or those who do not really intend to run for the position. Some of the presidential aspirants are popular names in the political arena.

Former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. is one of those who filed their Certificate of Candidacy (COC) for president during the period set by the poll body. However, his candidacy is currently being challenged by petitions.

Representatives of the different civic groups in the Philippines previously filed a petition at the Comelec to deny or cancel the candidacy of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos over his tax issues.

Marcos Jr. is unfazed by the petitions against him. His camp tags it as a “predictable nuisance”. According to the former Senator, he is determined to run for president in 2022 despite the moves taken to stop him.

The petition to deny Bongbong Marcos Jr.’s candidacy for president was raffled off to the Commission on Elections’ 2nd division. The poll body assured that Recently, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez gave an update about it.

Based on a report of ABS-CBN News, Comelec spokesman James Jimenez expressed that summons will be served to presidential aspirant and former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. today. The said summons will inform him of the petition filed against his candidacy for the presidency in 2022.

According to Jimenez, Marcos Jr. will be given five (5) days starting from the date when he received the summons to file his response to it. After he has filed his response, the poll body is expected to call a preconference and both parties will be given three (3) days to file their memorandums containing their arguments and pieces of evidence.

Last Monday, another petition backing the first petition seeking to deny the candidacy of Marcos Jr. for president was filed by a group of taxpayers.

  1. Pinag mamadali ng Comelec ma resolve ang petition against BBM para may time and reason para mag president si Sarra. Sarra-Romualdez tandem ng Lakas CMD yan ang gusto ni Dutae.
