OFW in UAE brings home a whopping PHP136 million after winning the lottery
An Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) working in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) won AED10 million or a whopping PHP136 million in a lottery.
52-year-old Paterio won in the weekly lottery called Mahzooz in UAE.
The formal awarding to Paterio took place on November 9, 2021.
In the said awarding, Farid Samji, chief executive officer of Ewings LLC, the operator of Mahzooz gave a speech before giving Paterio the cheque.
According to him, Paterio works within the oil and gas industry.
Based on the report of Gulf News, Paterio hails from Laguna and is working as a materials contract supervisor in Fujairah, UAE.
Paterio said that the jackpot prize would aid him in the therapy of his child who has cerebral palsy and for the tuition of another child who’s taking dentistry.
A portion of his winnings will go to business/investment in UAE and he also plans to return to the Philippines to be with his family and build their dream house.
He shared that he spent the last decade, toiling away alone in Madagascar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, just to ensure his family is comfortable.
Paterio has been working in UAE for three years already.
Meanwhile, this is not the first time that a Filipino won a lottery in UAE.
To recall, Roland Baltazar, a delivery rider in Abu Dhabi, won AED1,000,000 or PHP13 million.
On the other hand, Wendy Joy took home AED200,000 or PHP2.6 million.
While Dennis won AED142,857 or PHP1.8 million, and Carl earned AED500,000 or PHP6.4 million.
