Photos of Jeepney Driver Removing Plastic Barriers From Jeep as DOTr Announces That They Were No Longer Required Elicit Comments
A jeepney driver in Quezon City has removed his jeepney’s divider after DOTr announced that plastic barriers were no longer required.
Last week, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced that drivers and operators could already remove the plastic barriers designed separating passengers inside the public utility vehicles.
Assistant Transportation Secretary for road transport Mark Steven Pastor made the announcement. Pastor said that the virus stick to the plastic dividers, which may contribute to the spread of COVID-19.
“Drivers and operators can already remove them because there are no medical findings, based on our studies, that they can prevent the spread of COVID-19. Instead, the virus could stick to them,” Pastor said.
However, the transportation department said that quarantine guidelines and health protocols would still be strictly implemented in all public utility vehicles to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Recently, the Facebook page “Philstar” has shared the photos of a driver removing the plastic barriers inside his jeepney. The photos gone viral and elicits comments from the social media users.
The drivers have started to remove the dividers after DOTr admitted that putting up the plastic barrier were not being backed by science. A netizen even revealed that a jeepney driver will spend at least P930 for the barrier.
Starting November 4, 2021 (Thursday), buses in Metro Manila can increase their seating capacity up to 70% as COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region depletes.
