Iloilo City councilor vs pedicab driver
ED PEÑAREDONDO – A councilor from Iloilo City has been accused of mauling a pedicab driver.
A certain Eber Hinojales claimed that the official hit him multiple times.
Police Staff Sergeant Mary Lye Nandin-Vencer of Jaro Municipal Police Station said the victim went to the station to complain about the city official.
Vencer added that the victim accumulated injuries after a scuffle with Peñaredondo.
Their commotion started when the pedicab driver was asked by Monsignor Meliton Oso, director of the Jaro Archdiocesan Social Action Center, to not allow anyone to park at the gate of St. Pius.
Hinojales spotted Peñaredondo parking his vehicle which prompted him to tell the latter that he’s not allowed to park in the area since his vehicle is blocking the driveway.
The city councilor told him, “hulata ako kay mabalik ko (wait, I shall return).”
When the city official returned, he immediately confronted the pedicab driver but the latter refused to go against him.
Apparently, Peñaredondo pushed Hinojales, choke him at the same time kicking him.
A woman on board Peñaredondo’s car and the bank’s security guard came to pacify the altercation between them.
Meanwhile, according to Radyo Bandera Iloilo, the police have provided the victim assistance for medical expenses and it could be used as a basis if he files charges against the official.
However, the victim has no plans to file a case against Peñaredondo and only wants to blotter what happened to him.
The Iloilo City councilor has yet to issue any statement regarding the incident.
