The Palace has a statement following the retirement of Pacquiao from boxing
MALACAÑANG – The Palace has reacted to the announcement of Senator Manny Pacquiao of his retirement from boxing.
It was just recently when the People’s Champ announced his retirement from boxing after 26 years of huge success in the sports.
Pacquiao, the only boxer in history with 10 world titles in eight different weight classes, ended his boxing career with 62 wins, 8 losses and 2 draws.
His last bout was with Cuban fighter Yordenis Ugas via WBA welterweight title match last August 22. Apparently, he lost to Ugas via a Unanimous decision (115-113, 116-112, 116-112) after 12 rounds of boxing.
His loss was then followed by questions about his retirement. However, Pacquiao has not given any definite answer about his boxing career at the time.
Pacquiao retires from boxing to focus on his presidential bid.
It was on Sunday, September 20, Manny Pacquiao, a boxer-turned-politician announced his presidential bid under the PDP-Laban party. His announcement to run for president in the upcoming polls earned mixed reactions.
Aside from Pacquiao, among those who also announced their presidential bid is Senator Ping Lacson and Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.
Meanwhile, to recognize the honor he brought to the country, the Palace paid a tribute to PacMan following his retirement from boxing.
“Thank you to Senator Pacquiao. He has brought honor to our country,” said presidential spokesperson Harry Roque.
“We share the joy of his triumphs as well as his defeat. He made us proud to be Filipino,” he added. added.
