COMELEC — The Commission on Elections on Saturday joined President Rodrigo Duterte’s call for the peaceful conduct of the 2022 elections.
In a statement shared by COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez to reporters, the Commission on Elections reminded the candidates running for the 2022 elections not to resort to violence in winning the polls.
According to Jimenez, President Duterte’s call for peaceful 2022 elections was a powerful reminder to all would-be candidates and their campaigns to reject violence.
The Commission on Elections reassured the public that the poll body was working with the security sector in order to ensure that the next year’s elections will be free and orderly.
“The COMELEC shares the President’s sentiment and would like to reassure the public that it works very closely with both the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police to ensure that the elections are free of violence,” Jimenez said.

Jimenez reiterated that the Commission on Elections has the authority to implement COMELEC control on specific parts of the Philippines where violent situations may occur and the integrity of the elections was threatened.
In his speech last Friday, President Duterte has raised the possibility of using the military in order to ensure that the election is “peaceful and violence-free”. The President also warned against attempts to manipulate the election results and resort to violence.
“Ang election gusto ko sa lahat ng buong Pilipinas na peaceful and people can vote freely for their candidates and that the votes —there will be the votes and it will be counted correctly. Iyon lang naman ang gusto nating lahat eh,” President Duterte said.
