Miss Universe Philippines 2016 Maxine Medina gave a message about the failed MU bid of Rabiya Mateo.
It was in 2016 when Maxine competed in the highly coveted pageant held in Mall of Asia Arena, Philippines.
Unfortunately, she was not able to snatch the title after Iris Mittenaere from France has been crowned.
On the other hand, in the recently concluded Miss Universe 2020 pageant, Rabiya Mateo clinched into the Top 21.
When Maxine Medina was asked about Rabiya Mateo’s failed Miss Universe bid, she said: “Of course, we are all for the Philippines. I think Rabiya gave all her effort and love for the country competing internationally. She’s so beautiful, smart, and she got all of that.”
“I’m always proud of her no matter what. It’s not easy to compete in the Miss Universe pageant and be one of the finalists. I know the pressure because I’ve been there,” she continued.
She added: “We may not get what we want, but we learned and earned the respect from the journey we’ve been through.”
When asked what is her advice to applicants joining the Miss Universe-Philippines 2021, she said: “Don’t be afraid to show them who you are because nothing is impossible now. You can be everything you can, be anything in the universe.”
