Earthquakes around Mount Pinatubo
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that 826 earthquakes were recorded in the vicinity of Mount Pinatubo in Central Luzon since January 20.
According to the state volcanologists, Mt. Pinatubo, which is one of the 24 active volcanoes in the country remains in “quiescent” or quiet condition.
The active stratovolcano has been placed at alert level zero which means there’s “no eruption in foreseeable future.”
Despite there is no eruption threats due to the earthquake activities, Phivolcs cautioned the residents around the volcano to be vigilant “for both earthquake and volcanic hazards.”
The Pinatubo Volcano Network and the Philippine Seismic Network said that 826 imperceptible earthquakes in the east-northeast of Mt. Pinatubo in the vicinity of Mabalacat, Pampanga occurred since January 20.
It was on January 25 when the strongest earthquakes hit the vicinity of Mount Pinatubo with magnitude ranging from 1 to 2.5 at a depth of 15 to 18 kilometers.
Mount Pinatubo last erupted in June 1991 and it was the second-largest volcanic eruption of the 20th century.
