Philippine Volcanoes – How many volcanoes are in the Philippines? This is the answer from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
A volcano is defined as hill or a mountain where molten or hot rocks with gaseous material have been are being ejected. It can also be a crater, depression, hill or mountain that due to the removal of pre-existing material or by accumulation of ejected materials is formed.
The Philippines lies on a unique tectonic setting that is ideal for volcanism and earthquake activity, between the boundaries of 2 tectonic plates, which are the Philippine Sea Plate and the Eurasian plate. That is the reason why there are many volcanoes in the country.
