Mayor Marcy Teodoro placed Marikina City under a state of calamity due to massive floods brought by Typhoon Ulysses.

“I have declared a state of calamity for the City of Marikina para magkaroon ng pagkakataon ang ating pamahalaan na epektibong makatugon sa mga pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan dito sa lungsod,” the city mayor said.

According to the mayor, declaring a state of calamity within the Marikina will allow residents to access services from the government like emergency and calamity loans courtesy of Pag-IBIG, Social Security System, Government Service Insurance System.

Meanwhile, Marikina City was one of the worst-hit areas due to Typhoon Ulysses devastation.

Ulysses drenched and damaged the entire Luzon, killing at least 23 people with 16 missing.

Based on the latest weather update issued earlier, Ulysses re-intensifies into a typhoon and is now outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

At 10:00 AM today, the center of the eye of Ulysses was located at 500 km West of Iba, Zambales (outside PAR).

It is traversing Moving West Northwestward at 10 km/h and has maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 150 km/h.
